4th Evangelistic Conference - Last Day

We had an encouraging conference this year. No decisions of salvation were made, but we had a total of 9 first-time visitors who heard the Gospel. Many Christians, though, made decisions to become more active soul winners. We had over 21 people in our new work Sunday morning (Pic 2) and over 50 in attendance in our evening service (Pic 1) plus workes and children at our Children's Church, at our main church. That was a blessing in itself. I pray everyone will follow up on their personal decisions to lead souls to the Lord. Thank you for your prayers.

4th Evangelistic Conference - March 26-28, 2010

We have two speakers this year: Bro. Luiz Pereira (L), one of the missionaries our church here in Brazil supports. Last night he spoke on "Placing your Trust in the Lord Alone." A wonderful challenge on soul winning. Tonight's message was preached by Bro. Jair Lima (Above), and his theme was "The Power of Evangelism." Bro. Jair has a tremendous testimony of salvation. The Lord delivered him from alcoholism 22 years ago. After his salvation, his marriage was restored and now he is planting a church with his family in a needy area about 7 miles from our home church. Our hearts once again were stirred up about the great need of evangelizing the world. We are praying for souls saved tomorrow, the last day of the conference.

JULY-SEPTEMBER 2009 PRAYER LETTER

free hit counter

“O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”
Isaiah 25.1

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

Here's a brief report of what God has done over the past 3 months here in our ministry in southern Brazil:

SOUL WINNING
We had some good opportunities to witness to people in the streets, in the stores, and just about everywhere we had a chance to hand out a tract. We are expanding our current ministry to reach the two neighboring cities: Navegantes and Balneario Camboriu. In fact, we already have a preaching point in Navegantes and are praying about starting a Bible study group in the other city. One of our supporting churches has kindly furnished us with Portuguese tracts for use in soul winning here.

NEW MINISTRIES
City of Navegantes – We meet once a month in this city for Bible studies and prayer. It is our desire to eventually start a church in that area. Please pray for our soul winning efforts.

Santa Regina Housing Complex – we used to meet in this complex once a month for Bible study and prayer. However, the neighbors asked us to meet more often. So we prayed, and as of October 11, we began to hold regular weekly services there! We meet every Sunday morning, as our Sunday School in our main ministry starts at5:00 pm, followed by our evening service. We hope to start prayer meetings there on Thursday evenings, as well. We covet your prayers for this new ministry.

SALVATION
Celso – This gentleman attended a few services in our church and began to become interested in the Bible. On September 9, after I preached, I gave the usual invitation, but Celso did not respond. After the service, though, he came to me and said, “Pastor, I want to fill that void I have inside me.” I told him that only Jesus Christ could do that. That night, Celso accepted the Lord as His Savior! He was in such conviction that he kept saying, “Now, I got it.” Isn't it wonderful to go around knowing that you are saved? Glory to God! Celso has attended every single discipleship meeting since that week without fail. He came from an idolatrous background and has many questions. In one of his prayers he said thank you to me for caring for him. But you know what? It is Christ in me (woe, is unto me if I do not preach the Gospel).

Celso holds a very important office in town - he is chief of police. Another dear lady in our church is also a chief of police in town and she witnessed to him so many times, but Celso would not pay attention. The day after he got saved, he went to her office and brought her some flowers and said, “I want to apologize for not listening to your message. Now I am saved, and the void has been filled with Christ.”

I told Celso, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy 'Police Department.'" A few people from the Police Department have been attending our church, including people who were going to be sent to prison, and got saved in our church. So pray that many others will be reached with the Gospel before it is too late.

Solid decisions of salvation like these encourage us to get going for the Lord, sowing the precious seed of the Gospel.

DISCIPLESHIP
Regina – She is our family dentist. Please pray for her, as she is a new Christian whose husband has recently left her. Rosa and I have started a discipleship study with her and we hope to encourage her to remain faithful to the Lord.

Celso & Celia – Celso has joined Celia in our weekly discipleship studies. Celia too is a new Christian and needs to learn a lot. She is a Records Clerk for Celso at the Police Department and has had many opportunities to point people to Christ herself.

My Daily Walk with the Lord – Over the past few months, the Lord has led me to put together a crucial study for every believer, based on Deuteronomy 6.6,7, where I offer some practical tips for a Christian's daily walk with the Lord, involving Bible study, reading, meditation, memorization, prayer along the day, everyday, etc. I have introduced the program in our church and I pray that God will allow me to eventually put it together as a booklet, both in Portuguese and English.

MISSIONS
Brother Jomar and family – In September, we had Brother Jomar, his wife and 3-year-old Davi over as our guest missionaries. They are from the Amazons and are raising support to go to Chile as missionaries, hopefully by the end of the year. Jomar is a young man and I had a great deal of good counsel and experience to pass on to him. He and his family were a great encouragement to our family, as well. I told Jomar, “Now that I am 42 I feel like I am getting old, Jomar; just about everyone in the ministry I know here in Brazil is older than me, and here you are a young man starting in the ministry.” That it a joy to me, just to know that a younger generation is following us and will move ahead for the Lord, leading the next generation to Jesus.

We did a lot of soul wining while he was here.

MISSIONS CONFERENCE
Speaking of missionaries, be in prayer for our upcoming Missions Conference, October 23-25. Our keynote speaker will be Brother Wanderley, who is currently planting a church in Sao Paulo. Brother Luiz, another church planter, will also participate in our conference this year. Our church supports both of these men through our Faith Promise giving.

PRAY FOR COMFORT
Pastor Calixto – Brother Calixto is a dear friend of ours. He visited us back in April, when he came to bury one of his brothers, whom I had the privilege of leading to the Lord 3 days before he passed away (as I shared in my last prayer letter). Anyway, Pastor Calixto was back visiting last month, and then his father got very sick. On a Sunday afternoon, right after we started Sunday School, I told the church to be in prayer as I was going to visit his father, Jose, in the hospital. When I got there, his wife was there alone with him. Jose had just taken a turn for the worse and was really gasping for his life. While I was there, Jose, went to be with the Lord. I was able to embrace and pray with this dear Christian lady in this very difficult time of separation. They had been married for 65 years. It is just amazing how God does everything so perfectly in His own time. I was there to lead her son to the Lord and to be with her and her husband in those last few moments of his life. Please pray for Onelia that she might be strengthened in the days ahead.

REHAB CENTER MINISTRY
Edgar – Last month we met Brother Edgar, who came from my hometown to Itajai. He has been saved for several years now and, since he was an alcoholic before he got saved, he has such a burden to evangelize and counsel people who are involved in any kind of addiction. Itajai is a port city, so we have a lot of problems with drugs, alcohol and prostitution. I had been praying for years that God would send us a man with such a burden. We hope to start an outreach out of our local church to minister to these people.

We know that Romans 8.28 tells us that God is in control of all things and we believe that truth with all of our hearts. So pray for Edgar in a special way as last week he had a stroke that paralyzed the right side of his body. He was in the hospital for a week and now has returned to his hometown for special care. He is praying that God would help him to recover from this problem so that he can return to Itajai to help start this ministry.

FURLOUGH
My family and I will be starting our furlough meetings beginning in the Fall of 2010. The Lord has done some great things in our first 5-year term here in Brazil and we would love to stop by your church to share that with you. Please pray as we need to raise specific support for these upcoming travel expenses and for a reliable vehicle. Our home church has kindly provided us with lodging for those 12 months we will be State side. Praise the Lord for that! If you would like to give towards this need, please send your offering to BEMA (information below) and mark it as “Furlough Fund.” Should you want to help us in any other way regarding our furlough, please contact us by e-mail. We want to make the best use of our time while in the States, so I have been planning an effective itinerary to visit as many supporting churches as possible. We already have 13 meetings scheduled!

I hope to continue posting our prayer letters and perhaps prayer requests and updates on this blog.

PRAYER REQUESTS – Please pray for ...
The salvation of Rosa's Brother, Tony;
The spiritual growth of these new converts: Celso, Celia;
Edgar – Recovery from stroke;
Rosa's mother – she is undergoing a treatment for Hepatitis B, which is similar to chemotherapy shots. The treatment is one year long;
Our financial situation – as the devaluation of the dollar has caused our support to drop 46% to date;
Salvation of: Christian, Michelle;
Our new leaders: Jeferson & Juliane, Edilson & Tamy, Deymes & Silvia;
For funds to finish building a house so we can start a new congregation in town.

PRAISES – The Lord has blessed us with ...
Souls saved;
New discipleship groups;
Rosa's migraines that have reduced considerably;
God's grace that has been sufficient to us in times of trials and financial crisis.

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support. And again, we could not do the ministry here without your sacrificial help.

God bless you all abundantly.
